Doctors have found signs of the SARS-CoV-2 corona virus in only one pet since the beginning of the epidemic at the end of December 2019. As of March 16, no other dogs and cats have appeared with the corona virus on the list of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE).

"Accordingly, there is no justification for taking measures against domestic animals that may endanger their well-being," states the OIE's Questions and Answers on the Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19).

"There is no evidence that dogs play a role in the spread of this human disease or that they can become ill from it"

One dog, a Pomeranian in Hong Kong, tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 corona virus at the end of February. However, the dog showed no symptoms of COVID-19, a disease caused by a virus.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there is no evidence so far that a dog, cat or any pet can transmit COVID-19. COVID-19 is mainly spread by droplets that are created when an infected person coughs, rains or talks.
